Farewell Byron Whitney!

The Libraries have bid a bittersweet farewell to Librarian Byron Whitney, who retired this month after 37 years of service at Clarkson University. A celebration in his honor on June 21st drew a number of other library retirees, as well as family, friends, and many Clarkson community members, including President Tony Collins and Provost Tom Young, who came to wish Byron well.

Byron came to Clarkson, from Colby College, as Head of Bibliographic Control. He was one of the librarians who helped move Clarkson University into the electronic age by getting our resources into the national, online cataloging database, the OCLC system. Byron more recently served as our Government Documents Librarian, selecting and overseeing the processing of our federal documents, and our Acquisitions Librarian, ensuring that our users have access to the resources they need and that are so important to this institution. Byron can easily be described as meticulous and detail oriented, and of course, for those who know him well, possessing a compelling sense of humor. He will truly be missed. Good luck Byron!
